How to read the table
- Chip. ESP32 boards (Heltec V3/V4, T-Beam, T-Deck) have Wi-Fi and draw more power. nRF52840 boards (RAK4631, T114, T-Echo, T1000-E) have no Wi-Fi but run far longer on a battery. Details in ESP32 vs nRF52.
- Battery. "no" means you add your own LiPo or 18650 cell.
- Antenna. SMA lets you screw on a bigger antenna. IPEX/U.FL is a tiny snap connector that needs an adapter cable. "internal" means you cannot change it.
- Price. The cheapest listed price for the 868 or 915 MHz version, before shipping and tax.
From the Meshfield data (35 devices with a price, checked Nov 5, 2026): median price $48; the middle half costs $27.95 to $80.74; cheapest Seeed XIAO nRF52840 + Wio-SX1262 kit ($13.49), most expensive B&Q Station G3 ($139). 19 of 35 have GPS, 18 run on the low-power nRF52 chip, 15 ship with battery and case. Prices in US dollars at maker stores.
| Type | Devices | Median | Range |
|---|---|---|---|
| dev board | 15 | $25 | $13.49 - $86 |
| tracker | 1 | $30.9 | $30.9 - $30.9 |
| card | 2 | $39.9 | $39.9 - $39.9 |
| handheld | 10 | $71.03 | $21.9 - $109 |
| keyboard device | 3 | $77.16 | $48 - $92.35 |
| solar node | 2 | $85.95 | $72.9 - $99 |
| base station | 2 | $124 | $109 - $139 |

Which type do you need?
- Bare boards (Heltec V3/V4, XIAO kit) are the cheapest way in. You add a battery, an antenna if one isn't included, and a case. Good for a first test, a fixed node on USB power or a DIY build.
- Pocket handhelds (ThinkNode M1/M2, MeshPocket, WisMesh Pocket) come with battery and case. Your phone does the typing over Bluetooth. Most people end up carrying one of these.
- Trackers and cards (SenseCAP T1000-E, Wio Tracker, ThinkNode M3) are small, low-power and built around GPS. Their antennas are internal, so range is shorter than with a good external antenna.
- Keyboard devices (T-Deck Plus, T-Deck Pro, T-Lora Pager, Cardputer kit) let you send messages without a phone. They are bigger and draw more power. See devices with a keyboard.
- Base stations and solar nodes (Station G2/G3, WisMesh Repeater Mini, SenseCAP Solar P1) are built to sit on a roof or a mast and relay for everyone else. See the best solar nodes and the home base guide.
