For a wearable tracker, the Seeed SenseCAP T1000-E (IP65, 700 mAh, GNSS) and the Elecrow ThinkNode M3 (IP66, 770 mAh, 40 g) are the two sealed card-style options in our data. For a tracker you build into something larger, the Heltec Wireless Tracker V2 and Mesh Node T096 add a 28 dBm radio and an antenna connector.

A Meshtastic tracker sends its position over LoRa to other nodes on the mesh, so it works without cell service but only where nodes can hear it. Two points decide the pick: whether it is sealed and small enough to carry, and whether you can fit a better antenna. The first group has an internal antenna, the second has an IPEX/U.FL connector.

Best wearable: Seeed SenseCAP T1000-E

A credit-card-sized nRF52840 tracker with an IP65 rating, a 700 mAh battery and a MediaTek AG3335 GNSS, per the Meshtastic docs. It charges through a magnetic cable with four pogo pins, so there is no USB port. Seeed lists it at $39.9 (Seeed Studio official store, Nov 5, 2026), the same price as the ThinkNode M3.

The catch is the radio. It uses an LR1110 chip, and the Meshtastic docs note it cannot receive packets from older SX127x radios. The antenna is internal, so you cannot swap it, and it has no screen.

Best sealed tracker with sensors: Elecrow ThinkNode M3

The M3 is a 40 g card with GNSS, an IP66 rating, 770 mAh, magnetic charging and temperature, humidity and accelerometer sensors, at $39.9 (Elecrow (listed 'as low as' price), Nov 5, 2026) (an "as low as" price at Elecrow). It lists 20 dBm transmit power. Elecrow says about 18 hours of battery, which is short compared with a tracker you can leave in a bag for days, and the number is the maker's, not ours.

Catch: no screen, no USB port, and a separate LoRaWAN version of the M3 exists, so be sure to buy the Meshtastic one.

Best for a vehicle or build: Heltec Wireless Tracker V2

This is a board, not a card: ESP32-S3, built-in UC6580 GNSS with its own antenna port, a 28 dBm power amplifier and a separate IPEX/U.FL LoRa port, at $30.9 (Heltec store, Nov 5, 2026). It weighs 55 g. It does not include a battery or case, and its ESP32 chip draws more power than an nRF52 board. Heltec also sells an older V1.1 with 21 dBm.

Best for a car, bike or boat tracker with external power, where a better antenna matters more than a small size.

Best low-power DIY: Heltec Mesh Node T096

An nRF52840 board with a 28 dBm power amplifier, dual-band L1+L5 GNSS and about 12 uA sleep current per the Meshtastic docs, at $33.9 (Heltec official shop, Nov 5, 2026). You supply the battery and case. For solar use see the best solar nodes.

Also worth a look: LilyGO T-Beam SUPREME

An ESP32-S3 board with GPS and a 1.3" OLED, at $40.35 (LilyGO official store, Nov 5, 2026) for the base variant at the LilyGO store. The Seeed Wio Tracker L1 (nRF52840, GPS, OLED) is a similar bare-board nRF52 option at $30.9 (Seeed Studio official store, Nov 5, 2026).

Choosing between a card and a board

The card trackers (T1000-E and ThinkNode M3) are finished products: sealed, charged through a magnetic connector and carried as they are. Their drawback is that the antenna is internal, so you cannot improve reception.

The boards (Wireless Tracker V2, T096, T-Beam SUPREME) give you the opposite deal. They have an IPEX/U.FL antenna port and a stronger radio, but you add the battery, the case and the weatherproofing. The Wireless Tracker V2 and T096 both list 28 dBm; the maker numbers describe the board output, so legal limits on radiated power still apply with a larger antenna. See is Meshtastic legal.

For battery life the chip matters most. The T1000-E, ThinkNode M3 and T096 use nRF52840, which draws less than the ESP32-S3 in the Wireless Tracker V2 and T-Beam SUPREME. The Meshtastic power docs also note that GPS stays on during ESP32 Light Sleep, which is another reason an ESP32 tracker drains faster.

Privacy: who can see your position

On the default channel the key is the published "AQ==" key, so anyone with a Meshtastic radio in range can read what is sent. Message headers are not encrypted on any channel. If you do not want strangers to see where a tracker is, use a private channel and read channels and encryption. If you enable MQTT uplink, data can leave the mesh, so check the MQTT guide and the map-reporting settings.

How we picked

The picks come from the devices in our database with GPS, favouring a stated waterproof rating, battery included, antenna options, nRF52 versus ESP32 power draw and the listed price and its date. We did not field test position accuracy or battery hours, and the position update interval is set in the app, so we give no recommended figure. See the methodology.

Bottom line

Pick the T1000-E or ThinkNode M3 to carry or clip on. Pick the Wireless Tracker V2 for a vehicle with external power. Pick the T096 if you want low power and will build the enclosure.

Questions people ask

What is the best Meshtastic GPS tracker?

For a wearable, the T1000-E or ThinkNode M3. For a vehicle, the Wireless Tracker V2.

Do I need a phone for tracking?

The tracker transmits its own position; you view it on a phone or computer connected to any node in the mesh.

Does a tracker work without nodes nearby?

No. It needs another Meshtastic node in radio range, directly or through hops. See how far it reaches.
