Europe and the UK use the EU_868 region (869.4 to 869.65 MHz, 27 dBm, 10% duty cycle). The US uses the US region at 902 to 928 MHz. Argentina and Colombia are listed under ANZ (915 to 928 MHz). Buy a board made for your band, then set the matching region in the app.

Band 44b: 433.05-434.79 MHz, 10 mW ERP, duty cycle <=10%. Bar chart of the transmit power ceiling the Meshtastic firmware applies per region, from 10 dBm to 36 dBm, with duty cycle
Firmware power ceiling by region code, with duty cycle. These are the limits the firmware applies, not national law: check your regulator. Data: Meshtastic LoRa config.

The table comes from the Meshtastic region-by-country page and national regulator texts. For some countries the national text is not yet confirmed here; there the table gives the EU harmonised rule, which national rules in the EU follow. Always check your regulator before transmitting at full power.

868 or 915 MHz: which do I need?

Mexico is not listed on the Meshtastic region-by-country page, so we do not state a region for it. Check local rules.

Firmware ceilings are not national limits

The Meshtastic docs say the listed power per region is the firmware ceiling, not a national legal limit. A region of EU_868 at 27 dBm is a maximum of the radio setting. Your antenna gain and cable loss also count toward legal ERP. See is Meshtastic legal.

EU_868, EU_866 and EU_N_868

Three EU regions exist in the docs:

Most people in Europe should use EU_868 and the default LONG_FAST preset so they join existing meshes. See presets.

What happens if I buy the wrong band?

Boards are built for specific bands, and the antenna and matching network are tuned for them. Setting a region does not change the hardware. A 915 MHz board used at 868 MHz will transmit poorly and may damage the radio. If a model lists several bands (for example the ['433', '470-510', '868', '915'] of the Heltec V3), choose the right variant when ordering. The device finder filters by band.

Questions people ask

What frequency does Meshtastic use in the USA?

The US region covers 902 to 928 MHz with a firmware ceiling of 30 dBm. FCC Part 15.247 allows up to 1 W conducted power for such systems and has no duty-cycle limit.

What frequency does Meshtastic use in Europe?

EU_868: 869.4 to 869.65 MHz, 27 dBm (500 mW ERP) and 10% duty cycle.

Can I use a 915 MHz device in Europe?

Not as intended. Buy the 868 MHz version. The 915 MHz band is not licence-free in the same way in Europe.

Which region is UK?

The Meshtastic docs map the UK to EU_868 and EU_433. Ofcom sets the current limits in interface requirement IR 2030.

What frequency should I use for Meshtastic?

The band your country uses: EU_868 (869.4 to 869.65 MHz) in Europe and the UK, the US region (902 to 928 MHz) in the US. Buy a board made for that band and set the same region in the app.
